Eau Noire Kitchen

Eau Noire, a private country retreat in Quebec, the kitchen is carved from a single material: Magma Gold quartzite, cut and book-matched so its veining runs unbroken across island, bar and backsplash. The island reads as a monolith. Its fronts continue the slab without a visible pull, and its top lands with the weight of a block. The bar cantilevers in the same stone, lifted above a low stone plinth that anchors the composition. Behind, the veining turns horizontal and folds into a floating shelf, one gesture from wall to nook. Tadelakt and white lacquer recede, so the quartzite carries the room alone. Fantini fixtures in bronze rise from the stone with calm precision. A fluted screen filters the pantry beyond. Light from above grazes the surface and reveals its depth. Nothing is added. Everything is matter.
